In June 2012, Fox announced that Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) would direct a film version of this book from a script adapted by Aline Brosh McKenna (We Bought a Zoo, I Don't Know How She Does It, 27 Dresses, The Devil Wears Prada).

The film will be produced by Simon Kinberg, who was a producer on X-Men: First Class.
